Donate Your Old Solar System and Get a Tax Deduction

Our donation process provides a commitment of zero land fill of solar materials, little or no cost to the donor, tax incentives for donations, and a great feeling that you are helping those in need. Our mission is to keep solar PV materials out of landfills and to reuse all components that are salvageable.

Waste Not

Solar panels have been known to last 30 years or more…. But have you ever wondered what happens to solar panels when they are removed from service? There are many reasons solar panels need to be removed from service such as, re-roofing or damage done by extreme weather or natural disasters. Often, when older solar systems are decommissioned from service, new panels with higher efficiently are re- installed, leaving the older panels discarded or orphaned.

How You Can Help

Support charities that are doing good. With your help, and the network of charities that we have partnered with, your donation can keep PV panels out of landfills and make a substantial difference for people in need.

Through our registered charitable organization partners, your donation not only may provide you, or your company, with a charitable tax deduction (Consult with your tax advisor), it also helps those with little or no access to reliable electricity or clean water. Your donation also helps people become self-sufficient by learning solar system installation and maintenance skills. This helps keep solar systems up and running at peak performance.

To receive a tax benefit for your contribution of solar equipment, you must follow certain IRS tax guidelines. Consult with your tax advisor.

Information and forms are readily available at www.IRS.gov or by calling 1-800-829-3676

Damaged Solar Systems

Solar panel systems can be partly or completely damaged because of hail, wind, flooding, or fire. Often, when disaster strikes a solar system, only a portion is destroyed leaving behind surviving panels. These solar panels may still be in good working condition. It would be a shame to throw these very usable solar panels into landfills. Reusing the solar panel helps to avoid paying the high cost to recycle. Many of these discarded solar panels can be re-used and provide clean energy for an additional 10 plus years, giving renewed life and clean energy to communities and individuals that have little to no reliable electricity.

Who We Are

Recycle PV Solar (RPVS) was founded in 2018 when solar-industry veterans Sam Vanderhoof, Kristina Whitney, and Peter Beadle saw the need to address the life cycle of solar sustainably. With solar expanding exponentially in the U.S., it was no longer a “someday” problem. The need for addressing end-of-life disposal was an issue to be addressed immediately.

Because there are only a few recycling options available to the U.S. market, RPVS partnered with PV Cycle from Europe. In this collaboration, the team gathered intelligence from established programs in Europe. They paired best practices with an in-depth understanding of waste management in the U.S. and deep PV-industry knowledge to form Recycle PV Solar.

Sustainability

For solar to be truly sustainable, the solar panels need to be properly handled when they no longer are in use. Solar panels can contain hazardous materials such as Lead, Cadmium, Tin and rare earth components that can leach and contaminate our ground water. This needs to be prevented by properly processing all discarded solar panels.

Recycle PV Solar will collect decommissioned solar panels, and reuse those that can be repurposed. The solar panels that cannot be reused, will be properly recycled. All materials in the solar panel are reclaimed for making new solar panels and other products. Nothing is ever landfilled.

Today 1.3 billion people do not have reliable electricity and more than 2.2 billion people do not have access to safe drinking water.  Used and refurbished solar panels can offset these statistics by providing a clean energy source and power to run well pumps to provide safe drinking water.

We provide simple solutions for donating your old solar panels and you will receive a donation receipt from one of our non-profit partner organizations for your donations.

Your Charitable Donation

What happens to solar panels that are donated? All solar panels are collected, cleaned, tested, and certified for reuse or for recycling.

When you donate your solar panels, your donation benefits individuals and organizations worldwide such as; powering schools in Haiti, Native American tribal and reservation lands in need of grid tie and off grid power, medical clinics and orphanages in Africa, energy for powering solar water pumps worldwide, communication and water supply for wild animal refuges, lighting in developing countries so children have proper lighting for doing homework in off-grid communities, American first responders for powering communications and emergency lighting,  and providing support for US-based training organizations that teach skills needed to install and maintain solar energy systems worldwide. Solar panels that cannot be refurbished are recycled.

Recycle PV Solar supports good sustainable practices as well as helping fund our partner organizations in the USA and abroad, to reuse renewable energy in place of polluting fossil fuels.

Recycle PV Solar works alongside with our nonprofit partners to provide an affordable option to donate solar panels to be reused or recycled and a receipt back to you from a charitable organization provides proof to your tax advisor. Consult with your tax advisor
